17-10-22 | Making The Clay Family

I have made three models so far, and hope to complete a set in air-dry clay in order to make some conclusions before moving on to make larger scale versions in fired clay. It is also my intention to experiment with incorporating textile elements to weave the story of the family, by connecting each sculpture together to form a constellation, keeping in mind the ideas of grouping as a method of display. So far there have been some failures, which I hope to rectify through further process. For example, I want the colours in the child sculptures (β€˜Son’ shown below, far right) to be more distinct, so I must try different techniques of jigsawing pieces of red and grey clay rather than marbling them.
